Take control of your work schedule
Karo was built for the dedicated nurses, compassionate carers, and healthcare administrators who tirelessly provide care and support. Long hours, demanding schedules, and the pressure to do more with less take a toll on healthcare providers well-being, both physically and mentally. That’s why we set out on a mission to change the game and give back control to the healthcare sector ensuring well-being and quality care. Karo is a platform that connects healthcare workers with hospitals and care homes, allowing workers to work on their own schedule. Workers have a dedicated app where they can keep track of shifts, payments, and compliance documents. The clients get a dedicated desktop platform to book workers, manage payments, and schedule for future work.
Problem
Karo came to us to rebuild their product from the ground up. They had many problems on their customer app and staff internal platform. The biggest problem they were facing was during onboarding. Working in healthcare requires many mandatory documents that need to be approved before they can begin work, I had to come up with a way to ensure this process was easy and remove any friction for them to upload their documents. This project also included a complete revamp of the design of the app to improve the rate of shift bookings.
Process
Research
As Karo already has a healthy user base, we were able to gain insights from users and internal workers which allowed us to design a product that fit their needs perfectly. A survey with workers got over 1,000 responses which gave us the information we needed to know what needed to change and what did not need to change.
AI prototyping
We were given this project with a very short turnaround time which meant we had to use everything to our advantage to explore different design directions. By utilising Claude code, we were able to develop interactive prototypes to share with users and gather further feedback. We were then able to share this code with developers to speed up their workflow also.
Solution
From the start we knew this product had to as simple as possible to use. One of the key points we got from the Karo team was that users didn't want to sit down and learn how to upload all documents to get compliant. The most challenging part of this project was keeping the app as minimal as possible while also providing all the information required for healthcare workers.
